Eddie and The Cruisers: Tender Years

Thought I’d take a moment today and share one of my favorite songs with you. I’d heard it years ago when it was used in the movie Eddie and the Cruisers. It was billed as the fictional band, but it’s actually performed by John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band. The more time goes by, the more I love this song.

Just want to say thank you for having such a wonderful meaningful song, this is one of my favorite song from the movie. I just love the movies that I watch them as much as I can, I just love hearing these kind of songs by someone who has a hot voice. A very Hot voice indeed, the kind of voice any woman would love to have their man sing like! I know I would. Keep his music going!!Rock on!!!

Margie, although the song was released in 1984 for the film, it had been a staple of the Beaver Brown Band’s live shows for years prior to that. Can’t find an exact publishing date anywhere…

    Thanks for posting this song.

I bought the “original motion picture soundtrack” CD many years ago and was disappointed that this song was not included on the CD.

Thanks, you’re generous. Today from out of the blue i remember this song, and realized I’d been longing to hear it once more – I only heard it once, just once, when i caught the movie on TV years before.

You are welcome Amy – and everyone else. I only wish more people who weren’t alive when the movie came out could hear this song. It is so evocative of that early 60s “Jersey” sound it breaks your heart.

I recently caught the last half of the “Eddie and the Cruisers” movie. I couldn’t escape the song in my head and how I empathized with JoAnn when she sang the song ILO Eddie who couldn’t do it due to the tragic loss of his friend and bandmember. So I was determined to look up the words to the song, but came across this site. For me the tender years was another time and place when things were different, perhaps simpler, but above all they were memorable. Maybe it was because of things like being in love, sharing a secret with your best friend, being part of something bigger and better. Those memories return when hearing a song like “Tender Years”. Long live Eddie!
