Eva Cassidy – Somewhere Over the Rainbow
This is a great version of the old classic, recently featured in the opening credits of the film Alpha Dog. I’ve since learned the cover was performed by the late singer Eva Cassidy, whose voice has become legendary since her death in 1996.
The version she performed is really amazing, so I got a copy to share with you guys here.

I loved this the second I heard it on the opening of the movie Alpha Dog. I haven’t even watched the movie yet. I had to stop everything and find this song. All I can say is thanks to Xbox 360 so that you can zoom in, and actually read the music credits.
Thanks much.

Karen, look into Eva Cassidy if you have time. There is a pretty fascinating story around her and how she became famous years after her death. I now have several more of her songs on my hard drive.

I came across Eva Cassidy’s music sadly when she was nearing the end of her life on this earth. I’m sure she lives on in another. This track is haunting and a purely magical food for the soul.

TO DARLENE, HOW LUCKY YOU ARE TO HAVE THE MEMORY
OF EVA SINGING THIS IN PERSON, AND THEN FOR YOUR
MOTHER. THEY PROBABLY ARE IN HEAVEN SINGING FOR YOU.

Thank heavens for the internet!!!! I was watching the USA channel and my show had ended. I was getting ready to turn it off when this incredible voice started singing. I sat down, mesmerized. Then the movie came on and so I Googled the singer in Alpha Dog. It just makes me unbelievably sad to read that she is no longer alive and performing.
I’m going to do everything I can to get my hands on other music she did. I don’t know when I have ever been affected by a voice like I am with hers. Amazing doesn’t begin to describe it.

It’s the most “real” version I have ever heard. I loved Judy’s version in the movie but this is outstanding ans in a class all it’s own. Sorry she’s gone.
