Meet Meridius Dex

The last few months have found me working on the last of my web design projects (it’s time to move on to another profession) and getting involved for the first time in online computer gaming.

Massive Multiplayer Online Roleplaying Games (MMORPGs) have been around for years, with some of the more famous examples being Everquest and World of Warcraft. Although I have yet to try either of those or the many other games out there growing in popularity, my brother and I decided to give EVE Online a try.

EVE Online is host to the largest virtual universe in the world, and is the fastest-growing MMORPG of the genre. Set tens of thousands of years in the future, EVE is a breathtaking journey to the stars, to an immersive experience filled with adventure, riches, danger, and glory.

Features:

Massively multiplayer
Epic 5,000 solar system persistent single universe
Dynamic player controlled economy
Exclusive offline skill advancement
Unmatched versatility in game play

EVE Online is a science fiction a MMORPG set in space and is one of the very few MMOGs in which all players exist in a single enormous virtual universe at the same time. Gameplay revolves around players piloting customizable spaceships, of which there are many designs available and each of which is suited to specific tasks (bigger is not always better and faster is not always favorable).

Unlike many other MMO’s that grant character advancement through earned experience points, a player’s character in EVE Online “learns” skills by training a specific skill over time, even when not logged in.

There is much to keep players occupied in EVE Online’s MMO universe including combat, research, mining, manufacturing, piracy, trading, missions and cargo hauling. While NPCs sell low-tech goods, the rest of EVE Online’s economy is player driven.

In combat, spaceship builds are just as important as a player’s tactical ability and flexibility. EVE Online features an open PvP system. This means any player can attack any other player anywhere. This system is countered by each solar system possessing a security rating. The higher the security rating, the safer a solar system is for space travelers.

My character in EVE is Meridius Dex, an Amarrian nobleman who has forsaken his birthright in exchange for a life of danger and exploration. He’s become a bounty hunter and fleet pilot for an intergalactic alliance in zero-sec, the most dangerous territory in space. He also has become distinguished as a combat pilot for the Amarr Navy, doing the jobs they cannot or will not do.

If you’d like to join me in EVE, simply click the following link for a FREE 14-day free trial of EVE Online. No payment of any kind is required, no credit card information is needed. Just download the game and give it a try – if you’d like to join me in a great online gaming experience!

When you begin your own adventure, look me up. The name is Meridius Dex – and you’re better having Commander Dex as a friend than an enemy!

Great news for fans like myself of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel and Firefly. The creative mind behind those shows (particularly Buffy, the greatest 7-year narrative of all time) has announced he will be once again creating a new show for the Fox network.

his is Joss Whedon’s first TV series since the WB (which no longer exists) canceled “Angel” in 2004.

From tvweek.com:

“Dollhouse” stars Dushku as Echo, one of a group of secret agents living in a futuristic dorm. Each has the ability to be imprinted with custom personalities and abilities for special assignments. When they return, their newly acquired memories are wiped. The show follows Echo as she takes on a variety of assignments—some romantic, some adventurous, some uplifting, some illegal—and gains awareness of her role and confinement.
