For those who grew up in the 80s, one of the more camp genre classics of our youth was the Brigitte Nielsen movie Red Sonja. It came at a time when barbarian and sword-and-sorcery films ejoyed a bit of time in the sun. It even featured a guest appearance by Conan himself! (Not really, Arnold Schwarzenegger had a role, but it was as Kaledor, a very close approximation of his more famous Cimmerian counterpart.)
In any case, gifted director Robert Rodriguez has taken on the task of remaking this not-so-classic. With films like Sin City, Planet Terror and From Dusk Till Dawn in his repertoire, those no telling which direction this may go. But I think it looks like a possible stylistic successor to Zack Snyder’s 300.
We’ll see. I’m just learning about this and will keep my hear to the ground (or whatever else one keeps to the ground on the Internet) for future updates.
Although I will always think of Sonja as a gigantic Nordic chick, I do love me some McGowan.
I have become a real big fan of Lifehouse. They are just one of the very few great bands of this era. Their newest album Who We Are has already yielded the hit song First Time and they’ve just released Whatever It Takes as their next single.
But I really love another song on the album that I want to feature today on Jukebox, Easier to Be. The melody is great and I’m a sucker for the harmony vocals.
If you’re like me, you’ll be coming back to play this song again and again:
So they have this program for recording your gaming sessions on a PC. It’s called Fraps (as in Frames Per Second) and two nights ago I tried giving it a go for the first time.
I attended a PvP (Player vs Player) class in my favorite game, EVE Online, with a group I’d flown with before. I’d already graduated their Basic-level class, but it was my brother’s first time, so I decided to try and record the most significant fight and make a little movie out of it.
So, here goes. I wasn’t real pleased with the slightly choppy framerate (I think I should have set the FPS to 60 rather than 30) and I wasn’t sure what to do about the screen resolution. I play EVE on my laptop at 1440×900 pixels and I was concerned if I shrank it down no one would be able to read any of the text.
Oh well, it was my first try and it was still pretty cool working on it and laying in the soundtrack and title cards. Click the link below to open the movie player in a new blank page of your browser. It is in streaming Flash format, so it should begin playing almost immediately and without a lot of buffering:
My brother sent me the link to this website a few days ago and I thought I’d share. The idea is that a brief quiz can indicate where you might fall on the spectrum of political ideology. You can even compare yourself against famous historical figures who made their positions known on particular issues.
I love these parody posters of all those famous inspirational posters often found in workplace environments. It’s a slow day and I’m working on other posts, but check these out for a laugh in the meantime.
And my personal favorite, the one I’m going to start using on as many forums as possible:
The new James Bond movie is on it’s way and I have the first full trailer right here. The title, Quantum of Solace, has been widely debated and is certainly a bit odd. But the movie looks like nothing less than the same uber baddassery that brought us Daniel Craig as perhaps the best Bond yet.
