Quantum of Solace Trailer

The new James Bond movie is on it’s way and I have the first full trailer right here. The title, Quantum of Solace, has been widely debated and is certainly a bit odd. But the movie looks like nothing less than the same uber baddassery that brought us Daniel Craig as perhaps the best Bond yet.

Your kidding, the best Bond ever! Give me a break. I couldn’t even watch the first one. Listen children Bond begins and ends with one name and one name alone:

    Connery Shawn Connery

Ok, WHATEVER! Look, I have been a hard-boiled fan of Bond since I was kid. I loved reading the books and watching the films. I agree that I really like the Connery films, even if some of the acting and effects were lame (to today’s standards), remember that it was the ’60s back then.

If you were to say that Roger Moore was a “Kinder, gentler” Bond - I might agree. If you were to say that Pierce Brosnan’s films started getting a bit corny - I might agree. If you were to say that you didn’t like George Lazenby or Timothy Dalton, because they weren’t funny enough, or their delivery wasn’t polished enough - I might agree.

However, to say that Daniel Craig is not “The Best Bond Ever” is selling his abilities short. If you were to say he’s not the best ever at a one or two movie run, then I would disagree. If Craig is stuck with only two 007 movies, rather than the 6 planned, I would say at this point that he is the best short-run Bond.

Moore and Connery had more movies, and arguably better writers, to prove their worth at portraying Bond. No screen actor, or script for that matter, has ever placed James Bond in the light of what Ian Fleming ever wrote, or intended for 007. The published stories were always more violent, more “pornographic” and more gritty. Ever hear of Mack Bolan? That’s what Bond is like, cool…calculating…remorseless. Let’s face it, he wouldn’t be very good at his job if he were.

I am going to get down off my Astin-Martin styled soapbox now with a final word…next to Timothy Dalton, Daniel Craig is the closest thing to what James Bond should be - period. So far, I think he’s the “Best Bond”.
