We’re one step closer to Star Trek, with NASA successfully testing an experimental Ion Drive in Earth orbit. In fact, since the Enterprise only had thrusters for low-speed maneuvers, this means we’ve got something even the guys with Warp Drive didn’t think of.

Well, here I am still in Pennsylvania, drinking in another miserable overcast day of dull grey skies and that ever-encompassing feeling of malaise and free-floating depression that only days like today can bring out in a person with SADD like myself. It’s actually pretty remarkable I have survived this long in a place like this – which honestly is one of the worst places in the world for someone who’s moods are so affected by endless days of dreary weather.
In any case, I’d planned to be well on my way to Ft Lauderdale by now and had hoped to leave before April. But it took a while to fix up my Volvo enough to sell it (and make a profit, yay!) and now I am back on track towards saving up enough cash to make the move. I’m not going to go for an apartment right out of the box, after all. Instead, I want to pick up a travel trailer and a truck and just get out on the road. Live cheaply and enjoy myself in the sun for a few months before deciding what I want to do next.
Give me clear skies, an open road (and plenty of wifi hotspots) and I’ll be just fine!

The most anticipated trailer of the decade has finally arrived my peeps… here’s the red band (i.e. 18 years old and older only) trailer for Sacha Baron Cohen’s Bruno. And it looks good. Really good! Now you’ll be hearing people say how much more hilarious, and how much more racy it looks compared to Borat. And they’ll be right – it makes Borat look like an episode of Happy Days. This movie is going to be freaking insane. Bruno hits theaters July 10th, 2009.
And here is a video clip of my all-time favorite Bruno moment to hold you over until the movie is released, and to get you reacquainted with his fabulous journalistic exploits. Enjoy!

I don’t know how it happened, but recently I went through one of those weird confluences of events and experiences which somehow all coalesced around one person or thing. Like sometimes you’ll see an actor and all at once you’ll randomly see three different movies in one week starring them, even though you hadn’t planned it.
I caught a couple TV specials recently on Syd Barret and Pink Floyd, including the excellent documentary, Which One’s Pink?. Watching these different specials, along with seeing parts of The Wall again (which I hadn’t seen since college, despite having purchased a copy some years ago on DVD) was coincidental enough. But then I also saw a few Floyd music videos on different days and on different channels not too far apart from each other.. and it started to seem like I’d subconsciously immersed myself in all things Floyd.
So the tl;dr version is that I ended up with this last single from Pink Floyd’s final album The Division Bell stuck in my head for two weeks. Enjoy.

Genre movie fans (or just adherents of the “Mad Arab” Abdul Alhazred) can rejoice that Ron Howard is set to bring to the big screen The Strange Adventures of H.P. Lovecraft
Yet another indie graphic novel is headed to the big screen. Image Comics’ The Strange Adventures of H.P. Lovecraft, created by Mac Carter and Jeff Blitz, is being developed for Ron Howard to direct at Universal. The fictionalized tale borrows elements from Lovecraft’s life, such as his own bouts with writer’s block, and transforms his darkest nightmares into reality when he comes across a book that puts a curse on him and lets the evils he conjures up loose on the world. Universal picked this up because its take on classic horror fits in well with their monster movies like Dracula, Frankenstein, the Mummy and the Wolf Man.
