Just saw the first released image from the set of the upcoming Iron Man movie. It stars Robert Downey, Jr as the titular character and advanced word is that director Jon Favreau (Swingers, Elf, Zathura) is getting it right.
Below is the first shot we have of one of the suits in the movie. Apparently, this is the first armor suit Tony Stark builds - during his captivity early on in the story.
We’re goin’ crazy with the movie trailers this week. You can really tell summer is on it’s way. The first batch of badass movies is almost here (Grindhouse!).
I loved the first two Bourne films, so this is another on my must-see list. So strap in for another cool feature with this trailer for The Bourne Ultimatum:
Get your first look at the sequel to Danny Boyle’s 28 Days Later from a couple years ago. It was one of my favorite horror movies in recent years. Boyle only exec produces this time around, as the directing reins get passed to Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, who’s making his major English-language debut with the film.
28 Days Later, is due for release May 11th and here is the official trailer:
Cinematical have some good news for any remaining fans of The X-Files: a second theatrical film, which star David Duchovny has been talking about making for a few years now, is closer to being a reality. During a set visit to Duchovny’s currently shooting film The TV Set, IESB.net found out from the actor that negotiations are currently in their final stages, and that the film should start filming in 2008 or sooner.
According to IESB, Duchovny had mentioned the possibility of a second X-Files movie in 2005; instead of an alien conspiracy plot, though, Scully and Mulder would be engaged in a “standalone supernatural horror film,” as IGN reported back then.
Johnny Depp, Keira Knightley and the old gang are back in the third instalment of the Pirates of the Caribbean series. The trailer is OK and I’m pretty sure that the movie is going to be a fun ride. And make a ton of cash. The film opens May 25th.
Gerard Butler is interested in starring in a remake of ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK.
I have no idea what Neal Moritz and Ken Nolan have in mind, so it’s hard to know if this is a good thing or a bad thing.
All you can ask is would Butler be a good choice for Snake Plissken, hypothetically speaking? I’m sure we’ll hear more details soon. For now, here’s what Fleming had to say:
â€Hot off the socko bow of “300″ this past weekend, star Gerard Butler is at the center of a package that CAA began shopping Monday for a remake of John Carpenter’s 1981 actioner “Escape From New York.”
Neal Moritz is attached to produce, with “Black Hawk Down” scribe Ken Nolan penning the screenplay.
Several studios are battling for the pic, mostly because the $70 million launch of “300″ signaled the arrival of an emerging action star in Butler…
In what could turn out to be one of the most astounding box office stories of the year so far, ShowbizData is reporting that Zack Snyder’s adaptation of Frank Miller’s Greek war epic 300 has earned an estimated $27.7 million on its opening Friday, including midnight previews and IMAX receipts.
EDIT: And as of today, Sunday, “300″ has brought in more than $70 million it’s opening weekend, making this the biggest opening in March history and the first true blockbuster of the year. Let us fight in the shade!
“Star Trek,” one of the most popular and successful franchises in the history of movies and television, returns to the big screen under the creative vision of J.J. Abrams, the force behind “Lost,” “Alias” and Mission: Impossible III for Paramount Pictures.
The team behind the film will include Alex Kurtzman & Roberto Orci (Mission: Impossible III) who wrote the screenplay and will executive produce with Bryan Burk. J.J. Abrams and “Lost” co-creator Damon Lindelof will produce. The film will begin shooting this fall for a Christmas Day 2008 release.
One of the most popular film and television franchises of all time, “Star Trek” has encompassed 726 total episodes for television in six different series, beginning with the original 1966-1969 series created by Gene Roddenberry. The 10 “Star Trek” films have grossed in excess of $1 billion at the worldwide box office. The original characters have been named among the 50 greatest TV characters of all time and the Enterprise has lent its name to two proposed spacecrafts.
“If there’s something I’m dying to see, it’s the brilliance and optimism of Roddenberry’s world brought back to the big screen,” said Abrams. “Alex and Bob wrote an amazing script that embraces and respects Trek canon, but charts its own course. Our goal is to make a picture for everyone — life-long fans and the uninitiated. Needless to say, I am honored and excited to be part of this next chapter of Star Trek.”
Brad Grey, chairman and CEO, Paramount Pictures, said, “We could not be more thrilled to be back in business with J.J. Abrams. The revival of the ‘Star Trek’ franchise is an important part of Paramount’s turnaround.”
I wasn’t expecting to see a new Grindhouse trailer so soon and I wasn’t expecting it to be better than the last one, but it is. I’m very surprised that Bruce Willis! is in Planet Terror, and with every new Death Proof scene I see Kurt Russell in, the more glad I am that he got the role. This movie is going to rule 2007.
I’ve been hearing so much about this movie and seeing teaser clips of it for months. It looks like it will be great fun - if not just plain great!
The concept is that the film will actually be a “double-feature” of films, one directed by Quentin Tarantino, the other by Robert Rodriguez. Each ‘half’ of Grindhouse will be separated and punctuated with fake ‘trailer’ and vintage-style intermission commercials, just like in the old days of grindhouse cinema.
Kurt Russell headlines the Tarantino half, called “Death Proof”, about a homicidal stuntman in a killer muscle car. Rodriguez’s feature stars Rose McGowan as a hot babe with killer legs, literally. In “Planet Terror”, her leg lost to the monsters in the film is replaced with a machinegun.
Yahoo Movies has posted a great interview with Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez talking about Grindhouse and the movies that inspired them. There’s no better marketing campaign than getting these two in a room and just letting them talk about movies. The video also has a bunch of new scenes from the film. April 6 can’t come fast enough.
