The Clash – I Fought the Law

Things had been going pretty well with my eBay business. At least until a rival seller (who under eBay rules outrageously is allowed to remain anonymous) trumped up false charges of pilfered text and/or images. Now I’m in a fight to clear my name (I never appropriated anything) and the way eBay treats Sellers it’s doubtful I will prevail.

Borne of this frustration and the sincere, deep-seated desire to utterly rearrange someones face, I give you the classic cover by The Clash of the 50s Bobby Fuller Four hit, I Fought the Law.

Mötley Crüe – Saints of Los Angeles

oldmotleycrue.jpg

A great new single that’s kicking my ass is the latest from Mötley Crüe, off their new Saints of Los Angeles album. It’s the title track and, for my money, the best Crüe single since Primal Scream back in the 90s.

Most of the great 80s and early 90s bands seem to think it’s more important to “reinvent” themselves and change their sound in a futile attempt to appeal to every new fad that comes along. Meanwhile, the best keep doing what they do best and let the audiences find them.

Mötley Crüe clearly are back and I’m here to help you find them all over again:

Lifehouse – Easier To Be

lifehouse_1.jpg

I have become a real big fan of Lifehouse. They are just one of the very few great bands of this era. Their newest album Who We Are has already yielded the hit song First Time and they’ve just released Whatever It Takes as their next single.

But I really love another song on the album that I want to feature today on Jukebox, Easier to Be. The melody is great and I’m a sucker for the harmony vocals.

If you’re like me, you’ll be coming back to play this song again and again:

The Pipettes – Pull Shapes

pipettes1_1.jpg

I’ve been MIA since last week after taking a vacation in Florida. I did somehow manage to get both a summer cold and a sunburn, yet still had a good time.

Anyway, I’m back and want to hit you up with a very cool song I heard on a YouTube video the other day. It turned me on to this cool little Britpop group that is putting a twist on early 60s girl bands. They’re called The Pipettes and I think I’m in love. A girl band hasn’t been this much fun since The Go-Gos.

The Feeling – Love It When You Call

audio_the_feeling_2.jpg

Heard this great song on a movie soundtrack a couple of weeks ago and I had to hunt it down. Now I listen to it all the time and it’s really got me turned onto this cool band, “The Feeling”. They claim both Queen and ELO as influences, but I hear a lot of Fountains of Wayne and just a lot of great Britpop sound.

Whatever their sound is, I like it and want to hear more!

Plain White Ts – Hey There, Delilah

audio_plainwhitet.jpg

Yeah, this song has been out for awhile now and everyone has heard it on the radio. I think it stands up well, though, seeing as I still enjoy listening to it almost every day.

In a sea of faux punk bands and other such manipulative drek in the top 40 charts, this little song stands out as sincere and pure.

Gwen Stefani – 4 in the Morning

gwenni_gwen_gwen.jpg

I know this song came out months ago, but My Jukebox is about songs I’m listening to right now. And, even after it’s been out awhile, every time I hear this song it’s in my head for the rest of the day. I just love singing along to it, so it’s not much more complicated than that, right?

Lifehouse – First Time

audio_lifehouse.jpg

It’s great to be back with another Jukebox post this week, as I’m really loving this particular song right now.

I’ve been a Lifehouse fan since their breakthrough hit, Hanging By a Moment, which I thought was one of the best pop songs of the last ten years. Now they’re back with their new album, Who We Are, and I’m loving this first single.

Queen – ’39

audio_queen.jpg

For the first time in 15 years I’ve been able to listen again to the classic Queen album A Night at the Opera. I used to own the CD, but lost it many years ago. Now I’m really enjoying hearing all of these great songs again.

My favorite one on the album is probably “’39″. Although “You’re My Best Friend” is definitely one of my all-time favorite Queen songs, there’s something about ’39 that is just jubilantly strange. It’s played and sung in the style of a classic late 60s or early 70s folk song. However, it’s actually about a science fiction space voyage, and how a traveler must feel after being away from the earth for only a year, but having over a century pass back home.

Since hearing it again, it’s been playing in my head for days. Sing along!

Christophe Beck – Close Your Eyes

As part of my ongoing efforts to break out of the stupor that I’ve been in, I’ve gone back to watching the entire series of Buffy the Vampire Slayer once again. For the first time in three years, I’m watching the whole show from beginning to end. Anyone who knows me knows that this particular television show has had a unique influence on my life: namely it heals my soul.

I’m going to watch the first three seasons through on DVD, and then pick up right around the same time that TNT is showing the remaining four. I need something to get my head screwed on right. And every time I have watched this show and enjoyed the journey of its characters over the last seven years, I have subsequently improved my life in some meaningful way. It just gets my head screwed on straight, and gives me a fresh outlook on life.

So for today’s entry in the My Jukebox category, I give you the love theme from Buffy the Vampire Slayer, the beautiful instrumental piece by Christophe Beck, Close Your Eyes.
