This particular favorite of mine has been around for several years now. I’ve been waiting for a day when the mood was right and the sun was shining. Today is one of those days, after I have been feeling down for so many weeks. I feel like life is turning a corner and the clouds are parting. And this song is for everyone who’s ever felt hope like this.
Although some of the lyrics seem sad, there is hope in these words — and the music soars like few other songs do. I hope the song uplifts you as much as it does me!
Cos all of the stars are fading away
Just try not to worry you’ll see them some day
Take what you need and be on your way
And stop crying your heart out..

I am posting this recent, acoustic version of the Cyndi Lauper classic from the 80s. My sister wanted to hear it last week, so I rounded up a copy and decided to make it available here - so she can listen to it whenever she likes!
This live version features the great Sarah McLachlan on accompanying vocals. It’s a pretty cool rendition of what has now become a “golden oldie”. (Feeling old yet?)

Been very down this holiday season and new year. 2006 goes into the books as another one that’s ended badly. Anyway, there isn’t much to be thankful for (or even hopeful about) and I feel like I may be playing out the last of the string.
One bright spot was watching a fun movie recently that featured a song I was unfamiliar with. It was this little gem by Billy Joel - and I thought I’d share it with you.

Heard “It’s a Dream” recently on a rerun of Saturday Night Live. Some years ago, Neil Young was the musical guest and performed this live, from his album Prairie Wind.
The song is quite beautiful, delicate and gossamer-like, the way an old memory often is in our minds.

Now here’s a great, fun song! This one is just going up the charts, and I’m proud to say, I finally found something cool before it went out of style.
Actually, the style of this song went out about 25 years ago. Specifically, the Disco Era. Even more specifically, this song kicks it like it hasn’t been kicked since the Bee Gees!
If you can listen to this song without turning it up loud or even dancing around a bit, then you’re a better man than I am — and that just isn’t possible.
So, do you feel like dancing?

Taking a moment here after Thanksgiving to take stock and reflect. Hmmm, better quit doing that! Best to wait till the wacky season has passed before I take another look at my life. Can I still blog with a noose around my neck?
Rather let’s reflect on the thoughtful lyrics of John Mayer. Yeah, I know the song has been played to death. But I only heard it once or twice before it became a big hit. So I’m not sick of it - and I’m gonna post it here for you lot.
Waiting on the the world to change, indeed…

My little sister has been recording music, playing piano and violin, for years now. She is in her second year at college and recently went into a recording studio to produce one of her songs, including singing the lead vocals.
In the interests of making Kimi rich and famous (so she can take care of her indigent brother in his advancing age), here is her song from her high school graduation.
Got a new song to kick your collective behinds. This is the smash hit in Australia, ‘I Like The Way’, by British/Australian duo BodyRockers. I just heard it yesterday and, man, does it groove. Crank ‘er up!

Thought I’d take a moment today and share one of my favorite songs with you. I’d heard it years ago when it was used in the movie Eddie and the Cruisers. It was billed as the fictional band, but it’s actually performed by John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band. The more time goes by, the more I love this song.

Beck’s Sea Change is one of my favorite albums. It is a masterpiece of melancholy and I find very myself very much in that mood today. There have been further setbacks in my various ventures and it is a grey, miserable day in eastern Pennsylvania.
It is on such overcast and dreary days I turn to this album. It doesn’t necessarily cheer me up, but is so beautifully written I can’t help but be soothed.
My favorite song on the record is “Guess I’m Doing Fine”. The composition is elegant and haunting. Once it gets in your head, it is hard to forget.
